As we have started this new year I have come to realize that I had not made a New Years Resolution. It seems like every year we realize that there are parts of our lives that we don't like or areas where know we need improvement. This is the good part about the new year. The bad part is that we almost never follow through with them. My freshman year of college I discovered new found freedom. I was living in the dorm and I found out that I didn't have to go to class all the time anymore so I started skipping class and I stopped doing my classwork. This was the most fun time of my life. I could hang out with my friends, I could sleep in, I could go eat, or I could do anything I wanted. I was having a ball! Until the grades started coming in. I was failing my classes and was in danger of losing my scholarship. So I made a New Years Resolution that I was going to start going to class and went the first week, but then fell back into those same self defeating patterns.
We see that story play out in many lives today. We see that we need to change, we try to make those changes and we fail. I don't know about you but when I fail at my resolutions I feel like a failure. I get depressed or I get mad at myself and I think that there is no way for me to move past it. What if I told you that there was someone who didn't care if you were a failure? What if I told you that there was someone who saw your failures and then said that He would die for your failures because in spite of them He so madly loves you? Jesus is not concerned with your failures. He loves you no matter what. This year we need to stop focusing on ourselves and our shortcomings and we need to focus on Him! When we fix our eyes on Jesus and we run after Him with everything we have and we don't worry about anything other than "Will this please Jesus?" our lives, our failures, and our self defeating views and patterns of our lives will seem meaningless in the context of eternity. Focus on Jesus. Let Him lead you and then see what He is going to do for you in 2019!
